We are pleased to reprint the full text here (in two parts) with the permission of the author, Bishop Athanasius Schneider, who wrote in response to Pope Francis’ decision to modify Canon Law in order to allow women to be formally instituted as lectors and acolytes – “a gesture of great and clear rupture with the uninterrupted and universal tradition of both the Eastern and the Western Church,” in the words of Bishop Schneider.
